Every individual is different, and so is their path to therapy. However, the bottom line is:
… therapy is effective for helping painful experiences become tolerable. It’s a proven method for changing harmful thinking, relational, and behavioral patterns. But it’s also used to make good lives great. – Psychology Today
In other words, therapy can be important and useful for people dealing with addictions, depression and following trauma. However, it can also be a part of everyday wellness: “We go to therapy to treat problems as well as improve an already decent life.”
With therapy, there is usually no set length of treatment. Therapy can last anywhere from one session to several months or even years. It all depends on what you want and need. Some people come to therapy with a very specific problem that they need to solve and might find that one or two sessions is sufficient. Other people come to therapy with more complicated issues and may feel that they need a few months or more to understand and resolve their issues. Other people come with long-standing problems or difficult feelings and may benefit from longer-term therapy.
We offer a range of therapy services, including work with individuals, couples, families and groups. Our therapist also has particular experience and expertise in dealing with addiction and recovery. In general, also female sex and love addiction, and partners of sex addicts.
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is the mental health counseling branch of social work. LCSWs require a significant amount of training after graduating with a Masters of Social Work (MSW). Moreover, LCSWs must fulfill all the requirements to gain licensure in their state. This usually requires an extensive period of post-graduate supervised work experience along with passing of an ASWB approved national test. Our therapist, Sarah Davila, is an LCSW licensed in NYS.
LCSWs focuses on mental health therapy that is strength-based. In other words, they work with clients to discover their natural skills and talents. Then, they support individuals in using these skills to tackle issues causing hardship in the person’s life. The social work framework for mental health therapy is very holistic, and takes into account both the individual’s emotional and psychological makeup, as well as societal and environmental factors that can impact a person’s well-being.
